What happened to the bald filters on Instagram

Almost every bald filter on Instagram was made by an independent creator with Meta Spark, Meta's tool for building AR effects. Meta shut Meta Spark down on January 14, 2025, and removed every effect made by outside creators from Instagram, Facebook and Messenger that day.

Only effects made by Meta are left. That is why the name of the filter you saw in an old Reel leads nowhere, and why links to it no longer open the effect.

Can Instagram's AI make you bald?

Instagram now has Restyle, a Meta AI tool in Stories: add a photo to your story, tap Restyle and describe the change you want. It is not available in every country, it sends your photo to Meta's servers, and it regenerates the picture instead of following your head live.

For videos, Restyle only offers ready-made styles. To see yourself bald on camera, you need another tool.
